Upcoming construction in and around Kendall Square

By now, just about everyone is aware that the Longfellow Bridge is heading for major surgery this year.  Here's an update from Cambridge DPW on preparatory work conducted on the Cambridge side landing of the bridge.

During the week of April 1st, city crews will be transplanting the 15 birch trees, a majority of the shrubs and some of the grasses currently located in the Longfellow Bridge median (between the bridge and Third Street).  This work is being done in advance of MassDOT's upcoming reconstruction of the Longfellow Bridge, which is anticipated to begin this spring and will require the temporary removal of a significant portion of the median. The trees will be replanted at the Cambridge Golf Course and Fresh Pond.  The shrubs and grasses will be replanted at various parks around the City.
