Cambridge Vanpools Looking for Riders

Two vanpools commuting to Cambridge are in search of new riders.

Pfizer, in Cambridge, commutes from Hopkinton, MA, making a stop in Framingham and continuing on to Pfizer. They commute to Cambridge Monday–Friday, leaving Hopkinton at 6:00 AM and arriving in Cambridge at 7:15. The group is open to bringing on riders from other companies in the Cambridge area as well. For more information, please contact 781-937-0071.

I-90 Dry Run Lane Reductions to Prepare for Commonwealth Ave Construction

Starting at 11:59 PM on Friday, June 2, through 5:00 AM on Monday, June 5, MassDOT will reduce I-90 to 2 lanes in both directions between the Allston Interchange and the Beacon Street Overpass. This will be done so that MassDOT and its contractor can conduct a “dry run” of the traffic logistics on I-90 for the major construction that will take place from July 26 to August 14 (see more details here). A “crossover” on I-90 will direct all vehicular traffic to either the eastbound or westbound roadways at different periods of time – see the map below.

The project will replace the structurally deficient bridge, built in 1965, that carries Commonwealth Avenue and the MBTA Green B Line over I-90/Mass Turnpike and the MBTA Commuter Railwhile. New additions to the bridge will also include dedicated bike lanes and extensive pedestrian safety upgrades.

The following lists how and when the project will impact each mode of transportation in the Boston University/Saint Paul Street neighborhood:

MBTA Green B Line from Babcock Street to Blandford Street Stations: closed from 9:00 PM on July 26 to 5:00 AM on August 14 (shuttle buses will run between Babcock Street and Blandford Street Stations)

Commonwealth Avenue eastbound and westbound between Brighton Avenue/Packard’s Corner and Kenmore Square: closed to private vehicular traffic from 7:00 PM on July 27 to 5:00 AM on August 14 (two-way access will be maintained for MBTA buses, emergency services, pedestrians, and bicyclists)

Boston University (BU) Bridge: closed to private vehicular traffic from 7:00 PM on July 27 to 5:00 AM on August 14 (two-way access will be maintained for MBTA buses, emergency services, pedestrians, and bicyclists)

MBTA Bus Routes CT2 and 47: detoured from notmal routes from 7:00 PM on July 27 to 5:00 AM on August 14 (see project website for detour maps)

I-90 (Mass Pike) between the Allston Interchange and Beacon Street Overpass: lane reductions from 9:00 PM on July 28 to 5:00 AM on August 7 and intermittent closures of Exit 20 on/off-ramps (2 lanes in each direction during peak period)

MBTA Commuter Rail Framingham/Worcester Line: service impacts for two weekends (July 29-30 and August 5-6) – service will be maintained during weekdays; shuttle bus service from Boston Landing to Reservoir Station (Yawkey Way during Red Sox games)

Amtrak’s Lakeshore Limited Line: service impacts for two weekends (July 29-30 and August 5-6) – shuttle bus service between Albany, NY and Boston

145 Broadway Construction - Update

A major construction project at 145 Broadway has created several temporary roadway and sidewalk changes. We advise pedestrians to follow the marked detours and avoid walking in the roadway or crossing without a crosswalk.

As of now, westbound bicycles on Broadway and northbound bicycles on Galileo Way are being accommodated in a wide shared travel lane at the segments immediately adjacent to the 145 Broadway construction site. See below:

Within the next several weeks, portions of the medians on Broadway and Galileo Way will be removed, allowing travel lanes to shift away from the construction site, and bicycle lanes to be re-introduced. There will also be a mid-block pedestrian crosswalk installed across Broadway, between Ames St. and Galilei Way. This will also include a push-button flashing beacon to alert motorists of pedestrian activity. See below:

Commonwealth Ave Closure This Summer

Part of Commonwealth Avenue will be closed this summer due to construction, beginning July 26th. Spanning from Kenmore Square to Packard's corner, the project is expected to take 17.5 days, and will limit transportation in this area to MBTA buses, pedestrians, bicyclists, and emergency services. For more details and to plan ahead on your summer travels in Boston, see the full article here.
